Culture on Center Street in June

At the BTE


The Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble's interns are presenting Mr. and Mrs. Fitch, a light comedy about two gossip columnists. Details.

Dan Ford and Katti Mayk star; Michael Yerges, directs. The play is by Douglas Carter Beane and ran in New York with John Lithgow and Jennifer Ehle a couple of years ago.

Artspace

Joan Trusty Lentczner and Gail Zambor are exhibiting paintings at Artspace Gallery, 221 Center Street, through July 8. A reception will be held Saturday, June 2, from 6 to 8 p.m. Lentczner works brings the immediacy of rapidly done watercolors; Zambor the drama of large-scale oil canvases.

What's that buzzing sound next door?

The Bloosmburg Theatre Ensemble is staging In the Next Room (or The Vibrator Play) through May 20 at Alvina Krause Theatre, Center Street.

Cassandra Piscieczko directs the play by Sarah Ruhl about Victorian Dr. Givings, who performs experimental treatments for hysteria in his home office. Wife Catherine Givings discovers some pleasant side effects. Yes, sexual topics are explored, so mature audiences only. Tickets range in price from $5 to $25. Check the BTE website for specifics.

Sky writing

Graduating Bloomsburg University art studio majors are showing their work for one more week until May 12.  Featured in the exhibit are works by these BU students: Brittney Logan Andrew Bull Rachel Etzweiler Megan Combs Melanie Ortiz Olivia DeFranco Megan Koontz Lena Kurtz and Kyle Gosson. A detail of Gosson's sculpture, which deals with his experience as a deaf person, is pictured. This piece is located just outside of Haas Gallery and really needs to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The Haas Gallery is open free of charge weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
